"It's a great day for all Queenslanders," said ADAQ President Dr John Wills on 13 March 2008 when State Parliament passed legislation to introduce fluoride into Queensland's water supplies.

"The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention has recognised the fluoridation of drinking water as one of ten great public health achievements of the twentieth century.

"Fluoridation was also again endorsed by the World Health Organisation and the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council in 2007.

"ADAQ congratulates Premier Anna Bligh, Health Minister Stephen Robertson and Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young for taking such an important step for the oral health of all Queenslanders."

ADAQ has campaigned for over 54 years to have fluoride introduced into Queensland's drinking supplies. The first fluoride committee was convened on 10 December 1953.

Queenslanders will benefit from this decision for many years to come.
