This course is designed to provide participants with additional knowledge and skills in minor oral surgery.

Comprehensive patient examination, diagnosis and treatment planning will be addressed, and a range of practical exercises undertaken. Drainage of intra-oral collections, tooth sectioning and elevation, difficult
wisdom tooth removal, flap design and suturing. It is designed to instil surgical confidence in a practical atmosphere. The course will also include discussion of complications and possible adverse outcomes.

Participants will use specialised Maxillary and Mandibular Anatomical Models which reliably reflect normal anatomy and allow dissection, bone removal sectioning and flap repair and can be kept for future reference on completion of the course.

Dr Anthony Lynham

 

Dr Anthony Lynham is the Minister for State Development and Minister for Natural Resources and Mines. Before entering Parliament as the Member for the Brisbane seat of Stafford in 2014, Dr Lynham worked as a maxillofacial surgeon. Dr Lynham is an Adjunct Professor at QUT and an Associate Professor at the University of Queensland (UQ) School of Medicine. Upon his election in July 2014, he served as the Shadow Minister for Education, Innovation, Science and Information Technology, Shadow Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries, and shadow spokesman for the public service assisting the Leader. Dr Lynham graduated in medicine from the University of Newcastle and completed his maxillofacial surgery training in Queensland. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He worked most of his medical career at the Royal Brisbane and Women's hospital and is part of a research team at Prince Charles Hospital. Dr Lynham also served in the Australian Army. As a surgeon who continuously dealt with the aftermath of violence, including domestic violence, Dr Lynham is a passionate opponent of all forms of violence. Before entering Parliament, Dr Lynham was a prominent advocate of policies to minimise alcohol-fuelled violence. He is also a White Ribbon ambassador.

 

Dr Edward Hsu

 

BDSc (Hon), MBBS, FRACDS (OMS)

Dr Edward Hsu obtained his dental qualification with honours from the UQ in 1999 and medical qualification also from UQ in 2003. Following advanced surgical training rotating through most of the major hospitals in Queensland, Dr Hsu obtained the qualification of FRACDS (OMS) and is registered as a specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon with both the Australian Dental Board and the Australian Medical Board. Dr Hsu then completed additional surgical fellowship training in one of the busiest tertiary referral hospitals in London, UK.
