Members are reminded to stay alert about scams targeting dental practices. Members often ask us about suspicious emails they have received from new patients which can include some unusual requests. Sometimes the sender is being particularly vague about their circumstances or requesting obscure business information (eg. what EFTPOS device is in use). Sometimes they will request a quote for dental work via email or offer to pre-pay for themselves or their children. Often these correspondences can go back and forth whilst the practice tries to answer all the questions. If you or your practice receive these sorts of ambiguous emails, it is best to request the sender to call the practice for further information. We encourage practices to be aware of all types of scams and to register to receive emails from the Australian Government Scamwatch Radar
