A/Prof David Healey graduated BDS(Otago) in 1989, then worked in Australia, Wales, Zambia and Zimbabwe before returning for specialist orthodontic training.  From 1998 to 2001 he worked in the South of England in private orthodontic practice before returning to Otago to take up academia. Whilst working as a senior lecturer he obtained his MOrthRCS(Edin) in 2004 and MRACDS(Orth) in 2008. He developed his academic career from 2001 to 2009, the last two spent as Head of Discipline. Specialist orthodontic practice in Christchurch was interrupted by a destructive earthquake, ironically allowing more time for teaching, examining, research and specialist consultative services. He graduated with a PhD in 2014, titled ‘Orthodontic treatment efficacy determined by normative and psychosocial measures. His areas of interest include outcome assessment, craniofacial morphology, sleep apnoea, cleft lip and palate, forensic identification and quality of life.  David is currently an Associate Professor and the Discipline Lead in orthodontics at the University of Queensland
