This lecture is designed for dentists and their dental teams.



This course will discuss recent developments in infection control and their practical implementation in the dental practice.

Topics covered will include;

  • The latest on developments in 2019 in key national documents including the Australian Standards, NHMRC Guidelines, CDNA guidelines, Immunize Australia guidelines, and the ACSQHC National Health Safety Standards.
  • How to best use the 2019 ADA Infection Control Manual, 2015 ADA Guidelines and associated resources (the Self-Assessment Tool and the Infection Control Practical Guide).
  •  Structuring your practice infection control protocol to meet the Qld requirements for an Infection Control Management Plan.
  •  Implementing Hand Hygiene for maximal effectiveness and efficiency using the latest HHA resources
  •  Implementing transmission-based precautions: the when and how. 
  •  Water quality for dental practice: what is needed where.



    Prof. Laurie Walsh AO
     
    BDSc, PhD, DDSc, GCEd, FRACDS, FFOP(RCPA), FIADFE

    Professor Laurie Walsh is the former chair and current member of the ADA Infection Control Committee and has contributed to a range of guidelines, standards, protocols, and checklists in infection control. He has worked with the NHMRC and ASQHC as a reviewer of national guidelines, and with the dental boards as an inspector and consultant. Laurie has lectured internationally and published extensively in the areas of clinical microbiology and infection control.

    Professor Ian Meyers is a general dental practitioner and honorary professor at The University of Queensland School of Dentistry. Throughout his career as an academic and clinician he has developed extensive experience in comprehensive patient care, diagnosis and management of worn and broken down dentition, geriatric and aged care dentistry, adhesive restorative dentistry and dental materials, and the management of patients through minimum intervention dentistry.
