The Art of Predictable Complete Immediate Dentures

The Art of Predictable Complete Immediate Dentures

event overview

As a young dentist I never looked forward to carrying out immediate denture treatment. I struggled each treatment to work out all of the item numbers that I would be able to use. I struggled to communicate the potential problems that a patient might experience and to allay all the fears that my patients might have with the proposed treatment. I struggled to communicate my thoughts to my dental laboratory. It was stressful treatment for both the patient and for me.

The immediate denture treatment lecture  will not be an “advantages and disadvantages” type lecture. It is intended to be a “how to” type of presentation and I aim to elaborate on the knowledge and “tricks”  I have gained from carrying out immediate denture treatment over the last forty years as a dentist and later as a prosthodontist.

Learning Objectives

Immediate denture treatment and occlusion can’t be divorced from one another. Complementing the presentation on immediate denture treatment will be an in depth look at denture occlusion which will include:

  • The history and developments of occlusion theory

  • The various denture occlusal schemes that have been advocated

  • My reasons for trying to achieve occlusal balance

  • The importance of minimising the anterior overbite

  • How to treat those patients with depleted posterior occlusions

  • How to treat those with Class II occlusions.

  • How to use ramps and mini-bite planes
